Experiences

Everyone who visits us in Myoko, inevitably needs at least one day off during their stay to rest & recover from the muscle burn caused by deep Myoko powder. Powder Recon’s local knowledge and strong relationships with local business combine to provide cultural experiences to clients that will stay with you for years to come.

Powder Recon can provide guests with simple and easy instructions on how to get to any of our suggested day trips, and some of our day trips even offer pick up and drop off services, exclusive to Powder Recon guests only.

Day trips include;

SNOW MONKEYS AT JIGOKUDANI NATIONAL PARK - This trip can be done on your own at relatively small cost, can be coupled with a trip to Zenkoji Temple or you can easily make this a whole day’s activity with lunch in the base village and a stroll through the museum. Remember to bring a high quality camera with you because the photos you’ll take of these beautiful macaque monkeys will be reminiscent of those seen on the front cover of National Geographic. The 1.3km walk through a majestic birch forest to see the monkeys is both breath-taking and serene, but make sure you take some extra layers as it can get quite cold!

ZENKOJI TEMPLE, NAGANO - This trip can be done on your own, with relative ease and convenience by taking the local train back to Nagano and walking to the temple – Powder Recon will advise of train times and also provide you with detailed instructions on how to get there alone.

MEDITATION & PRAYER BEAD MAKING WITH A LOCAL MONK, NAGANO - A unique experience is available to Powder Recon guests to spend the day with a local monk based at Gyokusho-in, a house for monks of Zenkoji. Although he speaks limited English, he will be your guide for the day and will take you on a tour of Zenkoji Temple, should you wish. The day can include a one hour meditation, shakyo (a type of meditation where you write kanji on paper) or prayer bead making.

Speak to our staff once you arrive in the village to get further details on availability and pricing.

SOBA NOODLE MAKING & TOGAKUSHI SHRINE, TOGAKUSHI - Powder Recon has a strong and long-standing relationship with a local restaurant in Togakushi village, which is where we base ourselves for lunch and après-piste cake, beer and sake when we visit Togakushi ski resort. Owned and run by pro snowboarder, Toshi Yama and his family, their soba noodles are made from scratch each day and are hands down, the best soba noodles you will ever taste. This season, Toshi San and his family extend an invitation to Powder Recon guests to spend the morning with them, learning how to make soba noodles. This will conclude by eating the noodles you have made, followed by a guided tour of Togakushi Shrine in the afternoon.
