A quick 25 min trip on the local Mt Myoko Shuttle bus will bring you to the Suginohara Ski Resort. This resort is a favourite of the Japanese, offering a variety of runs, which on a clear day, allow for beautiful and extensive views of the lakes and plains below in the valley. Though it can become busy on the weekends, midweek Suginohara is all yours. It boasts a range of terrain to suit all abilities, complimented by consistent snow, short ski lift lines, night skiing, a half pipe and park. With 1,124, of vertical, Suginohara has the longest run in Japan – an 8.5km groomed highway to carve up and perfect your turns.
There are plenty of easy and mid-level runs with long downhill trails suitable for beginners as well as some challenging off-piste tree runs accessed from the top lift for the more advanced. An efficient network of ski lifts transport riders up to 3km in one stretch, and it has three connecting lines of quad lifts that can carry skiers to the peak. The upper reaches of the resort provide premium snow quality, magnificent views and access to fantastic backcountry and off-piste skiing that includes cliff drops, steep trees, and open mellow trees. Snow groomers are not used on all areas, making it easy to get amongst some deep powder.
